About the Role

This is not just another Leading Hand position. This is your opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role within our Equipment Workshop in Hazlemere, guiding a team of up to 12 tradespeople and apprentices while driving performance, safety and efficiency across multiple jobs.

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will take ownership of daily work allocations, quality standards and team coordination to ensure all work is delivered safely, on time and to plan. With a strong operational focus, you will influence labour utilisation, job cost control and work in progress performance to maximise margin and workshop output.

You will:

Lead daily prestart and set the tone for safety, compliance and professionalism
Allocate work across multiple live jobs while managing competing priorities
Coach, mentor and develop a developing workforce with a strong growth focus
Ensure Standard Repair Times are met or improved
Drive documentation accuracy, job quality and efficiency performance
Work closely with other Leading Hands and Supervisors to deliver the Operational Plan

This role is ideal for a senior HD Mechanic ready to step up, or an experienced Leading Hand who thrives in a high accountability environment where safety, performance and team culture truly matter.

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will bring both technical depth and genuine leadership capability.

Essential:

HD Mechanic qualification with minimum 5 years post trade experience
Proven experience leading teams of up to 12 personnel including apprentices and Tas
Strong safety leadership with the ability to lead prestarts confidently
Experience managing multiple jobs simultaneously in a busy workshop
Understanding of labour utilisation, WIP and job cost control
Intermediate computer skills including MS Office
Forklift and Dogging licences
Availability for full time work including overtime and occasional Saturdays

Highly regarded:

CAT experience across Dump Trucks, Wheel Loaders and Ancillary equipment
Overhead Gantry licence
Knowledge of CAT SIS and dealer parts and service processes
Strong conflict management and coaching skills

You must lead by example, be respectful, safety driven and able to develop a relatively green team while maintaining high standards of workmanship and accountability.
