This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned geotechnical professional to step into a senior technical leadership role with influence across a diverse portfolio of both underground and open pit mining operations. You will provide strategic geotechnical expertise, technical governance, operational support, and consulting services to clients while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Based in our Perth CBD office on St Georges Terrace, this role combines technical leadership, consulting excellence, client engagement, and Australian and international site travel. Working closely with operational teams, project teams, and senior stakeholders, you will play a critical role in shaping geotechnical strategies that enhance safety, stability, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.
What Will Your Day-to-Day Look Like?
- Provide principal-level geotechnical engineering support across a diverse portfolio of underground and open pit mining operations and projects.
- Lead technical reviews, geotechnical governance activities, and assurance programs for clients and stakeholders.
- Conduct geotechnical audits, risk assessments, compliance reviews, and operational performance evaluations.
- Review and provide guidance on Ground Control Management Plans (GCMPs), Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs), and support standards.
- Deliver site-based geotechnical assessments and recommendations for both operating and development projects.
- Provide technical input into stope design, slope stability assessments, crown and sill pillar design, and overbreak analysis.
- Support schedule optimisation and ground control strategies for mine development and production activities.
- Participate in incident investigations, Significant Potential Incident (SPI) reviews, and root cause analyses.
- Develop and deliver ground awareness and geotechnical risk management training programs.
- Collaborate closely with site teams to embed best-practice ground control and geotechnical management systems.
- Mentor, coach, and develop geotechnical engineers, consultants, and technical professionals across the business.
- Contribute to technical due diligence reviews, tender submissions, and project risk assessments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
- Support business growth initiatives and contribute to the expansion of Orelogy's geotechnical consulting capability.
- Champion technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across the business.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years' geotechnical engineering experience across a range of mining methods and commodities.
- Strong experience in both open pit and underground mining environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in ground control, slope stability, underground excavation design, and geotechnical risk management.
- Extensive site-based operational experience with the ability to support multiple operations and projects.
- Proven experience leading technical reviews, investigations, audits, and assurance activities.
- Minimum 5 years' experience leading or supervising teams.
