The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team at the Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario.
Rotation is 14-shifts on / 14-shifts off. (FIFO/DIDO)
The Project Engineer plays a critical role in supporting underground operations by facilitating efficient short-term planning and ensuring accurate, validated data is used to guide operational decisions. This position contributes to daily reporting, supports compliance with design and quality standards, and helps drive performance through effective contract and commercial management. Working closely with internal teams, clients, and contractor partners, the coordinator aligns operational execution with broader project and business goals.
More specifically, our Project Engineer will:
Prepare and maintain daily production reports to support short interval control.
- Capture, analyze, and validate operational data to inform planning and performance tracking.
- Assist the Client planner with the development of 7-day and 21-day mine plans.
- Conduct routine underground inspections to verify compliance with design specifications.
- Assist with QA/QC data collection and develop familiarity with ground support systems and site standards.
- Support survey and ventilation teams as needed.
- Learn contractor KPIs and cost drivers to support informed daily decision-making.
- Maintain, report, and monitor production and performance data to ensure both client and company targets are achieved.
- Chair daily production review meetings and provide commercial input to the client’s technical services team to assist with planning and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with monthly project schedules, contractual obligations, and company terms of business.
- Manage monthly claims invoices, contract variations, and contract close-out processes in line with agreed schedules of rates.
- Ensure Barminco’s contracts policies and procedures are followed, and all contractual risks are identified and escalated appropriately.
- Assist in developing scopes of work, contract terms, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate contract data in relevant information management systems.
- Compile and review weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports.
- Monitor site P&L performance and champion continuous improvement initiatives that support positive EBIT outcomes.
- Create and maintain ad hoc reports and presentations as required.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and new team members, supporting their development and succession planning.
- Assist with general administrative processes at site.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Mine Engineering.
- 5–7 years of experience in mine engineering in an underground mining environment.
- Strong technical competence and understanding of key business drivers in gold mining.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Deswik, Microsoft Office Suite, and other computer-based tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural team environment.
