The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Mine Foreperson to join our team underground at the Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario.
It is a "drive in/drive out" position with Travel and Accommodations if you reside outside the Marathon / Manitouwadge area.
Reporting to the Mine Superintendent and Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers while being accountable for overseeing the work assignments of underground crews to reach production targets safely and efficiently.
More specifically, our Mine Foreperson will:
- Provide strong leadership that instils confidence, encourages teamwork, and fosters a positive, safe and productive workplace
- Schedule, assign and coordinate the work of underground crews and mining equipment to safely achieve production and development targets.
- Work closely with the Mine Superintendent, Project Managers and Maintenance Foreperson to plan effective production, maintain equipment reliability, and forecast material and supply needs for mining and construction projects.
- Ensure workers are properly trained, competent, and equipped to perform their assigned tasks safely and effectively.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation for Mines and Mining Plants, and all other applicable company and government standards.
- Ensure all employees and supervisors follow company policies, procedures, and regulations; taking coaching and or disciplinary action when required in a fair and consistent manner.
- Oversee the upkeep of the underground areas to ensure a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
- Evaluate the performance of personnel under supervision, providing coaching, recognition and opportunities for development.
- Participate in daily client meetings to discuss previous and upcoming production/development targets, as well as any activities relating to the shaft, paste, and construction.
Skills and Experience:
- Technical diploma, degree or similar qualification in mine engineering
- Underground Common Core including a First Line Supervisors - Underground Hard Rock Mining (Program #770121)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervisory roles in underground mining
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, energetic
- Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Teams
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
- Strong communications skills, verbal and written
- Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
