Barminco Mine Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for Development Charge-Up Operators to join our team underground at the Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers while handling and transporting explosive materials for development blasting.
More specifically, our Charge-Up Operators will:
- Proven expertise in blasting operations. Skilled in executing sub-drift, breast, slash, and drift rounds with hands-on experience using ANFO and various initiating systems tailored to rock type and drill patterns.
- Proficient in equipment operation and maintenance. Experienced in operating and maintaining trucks, loading equipment, and associated accessories, ensuring peak performance and strict adherence to safety standards.
- Strong leadership in development environments. Capable of leading development headings, guiding junior crew members, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard.
- Effective communicator and collaborative team member. Regularly coordinates with co-workers, including Jumbo Operators, Ancillary personnel, and Supervisors to streamline tasks and optimize workflow across operations.
- Commitment to safety and cleanliness. Maintains a safety-first approach by adhering to all safety procedures, reporting hazards, and keeping work areas and roads clean and free of obstructions.
- Adaptable to rotational shift work. Flexible and dependable with the ability to adjust seamlessly to varying schedules, roles, and operational priorities.
- Self-motivated and receptive to guidance. Works independently with minimal supervision, follows instructions with precision, and takes initiative to exceed expectations.
- Dedicated to continuous learning and knowledge sharing. Committed to adopting new methods and technologies while actively contributing to team growth by sharing expertise and supporting colleague development.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
- Demonstrated commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground mining
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a charge-up role
- Ontario Hard Rock Mining Common Core, including modules U0006 ‘Blasting’ (U0093 ‘Mobile Bulk Blasting’ preferred)
- Working at Heights Certificate;
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
- Be reliable and dependable
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
