Job Title: Senior Project Manager

The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services Canada has a great opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to work at the mining project located in British Columbia.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate is accountable for the safe, productive and commercial performance of the Red Chris project, ensuring effective utilisation of people, equipment and resources to achieve or exceed Client and Barminco operational and financial targets. The role provides overall leadership of Barminco’s site operations and is responsible for delivering the project in accordance with contractual requirements, approved budgets, company standards and agreed performance objectives.

Location: Red Chris Mine, BC
Shift: 16 days on / 12 days off roster, 12 hours, 6:00am- 6:00pm

Accommodation: Individual rooms with ensuite at the mining camp; meals are provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal obligations, including current legislation associated with mine safety, employment, occupational health and safety, licensing, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all Barminco policies, procedures, work instructions, regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Promote and demonstrate visible safety leadership to achieve zero harm outcomes. 
  • Implement and maintain safe systems of work, SOPs, and risk management processes. 
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and regulatory engagements and ensure corrective actions are completed. 
  • Provide overall leadership and oversight of underground production, development and support activities to ensure safe and efficient delivery against the approved mine plan.
  • Financial management according to the contract and service agreement with our clients, including submission of progress claims.
  • Identify, document and manage contractual variations, delays, scope changes and other commercial entitlements in accordance with the contract.
  • Deliver production and development targets in line with approved mine plans and quality standards. 
  • Monitor and manage KPI’s including development advance, equipment utilization, and downtime. 
  • Ensure effective workforce planning and supervision of supervisors, crews, and contractors. 
  • Manage project costs in alignment with approved budgets. 
  • Conduct regular analysis of costs and create and implement initiatives to reduce costs and improve the profitability of the contract.
  • Monitor labour, equipment, and consumables to control cost. 
  • Oversee procurement, resource allocation, and contractor performance. 
  • Lead, coach and develop the project leadership team, superintendents and frontline leaders to build organisational capability, accountability and a high-performance culture.. 
  • Promote Barminco values and principles in all operational activities. 
  • Foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. 
  • Maintain effective communication across departments and with senior leadership. 
  • Prepare and deliver accurate operational and performance reports. 
  • Provide detailed handover documentation to ensure seamless transition between rotations. 
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies. 
  • Build a high performing, commercial and customer focused culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all Barminco policies, procedures, work instructions and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain strong and effective relationships with the Client’s site leadership and key stakeholders, proactively managing project performance, contractual obligations, commercial matters and emerging issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years in Underground Mining with 10 years in leadership, 5 years as a Project Manager
  • Experience in mechanized underground mining operations  
  • Proven experience in high-speed mine development (gold, copper, nickel or similar) 
  • Experience managing contractors and cross-functional teams  
  • Financial acumen: must be able to prepare and deliver end of month progress claim to clients. Summary of chargeable work completed on a monthly basis. 
  • Must be able to understand and prepare input on basic financial reports (costing, EBIT calculations, budgets, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of ground control, ventilation, and mine services  
  • Understanding of mining software and operational reporting systems 
  • Thorough knowledge of mining legislation, statutory compliance, inspections and audit processes  
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management capability 
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills  
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills  
  • High level of organizational and time management skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams) – Preferred
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment  
  • Tertiary qualification in mining engineering or a related discipline is desirable; alternatively, extensive relevant underground mining and senior operational management experience.
  •  Relevant underground mining supervisory or statutory qualifications appropriate to the jurisdiction and role, where required.
  • Valid driver's license.

 Work Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Regular exposure to mobile heavy equipment, confined spaces, low-light conditions, airborne dust, diesel exhaust, vibration, and elevated noise levels. 
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism, leadership, and self-motivation. 
  • Compliance with all site-specific medical clearances, respirator fit testing, drug and alcohol policies, and fitness-for-duty standards. 
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move for extended periods on uneven, wet, muddy, or rocky ground surfaces throughout the shift. 
  • Capacity to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders and access ways in underground headings and development areas. 
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds unassisted; heavier loads handled with mechanical aids or team lifting procedures. 
  • Ability to push and pull equipment, ventilation ducting, hoses, and other materials during operational activities. 
  • Visual acuity adequate to distinguish colors (for ground support, signalling, and hazard identification), read instrumentation/markings, and operate in low-light conditions. 
  • Auditory ability sufficient to hear alarms, equipment signals, and verbal instructions, and to communicate effectively in high-noise environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
