The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.
Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, the project engineer is tasked with monitoring site commercial and accounting tasks and implementing business improvement projects
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Ensure compliance with all Barminco HSE policies and procedures, Occupational Health & Safety legislation, and site-specific client requirements.
- Promote and support a high-performing, safety-focused, and customer-oriented culture.
- Uphold Barminco’s values and contribute to achieving business objectives through effective collaboration.
- Ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures, work instructions, and statutory requirements.
- Monitor and manage site compliance with contractual obligations, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Oversee site commercial and accounting activities, highlighting discrepancies, risks, or improvement opportunities.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and Mining Superintendent to identify and implement business improvement initiatives.
- Support the development and execution of business improvement plans, managing assigned deliverables.
- Monitor production logs (PLODs) and submit delay modifier claims to the client in a timely manner.
- Review MinRep data for accuracy and ensure timely corrections where required.
- Compile and submit monthly client claims, including supporting documentation, in accordance with contractual timelines.
- Prepare revenue and cost accruals, ensuring alignment with monthly reporting requirements.
- Complete monthly reporting requirements, including inputs for site “Health Check” meetings.
- Support site leadership in implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
- Represent Barminco on site in the absence of the Project Management team, as required.
- Participate in short-term and weekly planning meetings, identifying and escalating risks or issues.
- Initiate and support contract variations, renewals, and contract re-modelling activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or designate.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineering designation (or eligibility) required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Experience in underground mining operations.
- Demonstrated experience in contract administration within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, equipment, and supporting vendors.
- Proven ability to monitor and manage contract performance, KPIs, and service delivery outcomes.
- Experience facilitating contract review meetings and managing client relationships.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply contractual information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills, with a focus on outcomes.
- Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, including operational and non-operational stakeholders.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Solid understanding of commercial and financial principles in a project environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and risk management practices in mining operations.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive commercial information.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency.
- Experience working in multi-site or complex mining environments is considered an asset.
- Successful completion of pre-employment requirements, including fit-for-duty and drug & alcohol testing.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, reach and manipulate objects.
- The position requires mobility.
- Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Usual office working conditions: noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.
- Extreme weather conditions.
