The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. Is seeking an experienced Maintenance Lead Hand to join our maintenance team at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. This role is best suited to a mechanically qualified tradesperson who also possesses advanced electrical diagnostic capability, particularly in electrical-over-hydraulic systems used in mobile mining equipment. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.
Reporting to the Maintenance Foreperson, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers. You will be required to work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.
More specifically, our Maintenance Lead Hand will:
- Act as the first point of contact for the crew, providing direction and mentorship to mechanics on troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair best practices for underground mining equipment and some light vehicles.
- Working as directed to maximise mining productivity and minimise equipment down-time;
- Oversee quality control inspections are carried out on all equipment before leaving workshop;
- Confirming that all workshop tooling and equipment is in a safe and serviceable condition, and if not, raising to the Maintenance Foreman or Project Manager
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and drive compliance with all applicable standard operating procedures, safe work practices, and work instructions.
- Coordinate and direct daily maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production requirements
- Conducting pre-shift meetings; delegating job tasks; set clear priorities for the team
- Assisting with training and mentoring team members.
- Support the foremen in planning and scheduling maintenance activities and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and workshop efficiency
- Promote a positive safety culture by actively leading safety initiatives, hazard identification, and supporting/play a role in incident investigations.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician (421A) trade certification required.
- Red Seal Certification preferred.
- Mine Supervisor Certificate considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Lead Hand or supervisory role within a fast-paced underground mining environment.
- Strong background in working with a range of underground mobile mining equipment, including Sandvik, Normet, Caterpillar, and MacLean.
- Proven experience managing scheduled maintenance, servicing, repairs, and breakdowns on underground mining equipment.
- Strong commitment to working safely and leading by example
Work Conditions
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
- Extreme weather conditions
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
