The Opportunity:  Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has a new exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Foreperson at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia.  Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.

 

Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will lead and supervise maintenance personnel, ensuring site mobile equipment is serviced safely and efficiently. With a strong commitment to safety and sound operational judgement, they will help maximize development capability while ensuring the safety of themselves and their team.

 

More specifically, our Maintenance Foreperson will:

 

  • Ensure compliance with all Barminco policies, procedures, statutory regulations, and work instructions.
  • Maintain a strong and regular presence across workshop and underground areas to monitor safety, task completion, and work quality.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules planned and breakdown repairs, and equipment availability in collaboration with Lead Hands, Planners, and the Mining team.
  • Provide clear work objectives, expectations, and performance standards to maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure required manpower, tools, and equipment are in place to meet production targets and cost plans.
  • Oversee training and competency development to ensure employees are properly equipped to work safely and effectively.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, inspections, and service records.
  • Develop and uphold workshop standards, specifications, and maintenance systems aimed at reducing risk and operational variation.
  • Track and analyze maintenance KPIs, equipment history, and costs to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Support risk assessments, audits, incident investigations (ICAM), and ensure statutory inspections are completed and recorded.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of continuous improvement across all maintenance functions.
  • Support budgeting efforts by tracking expenditures and flagging variances to the Project Manager and Maintenance Superintendents.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as reviewed and assigned upon hire.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
  • Technical diploma, degree or similar qualification in Maintenance/Mechanics field
  • Valid Mechanical/Trades Licenses
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working as an underground mechanic
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Mine Supervisor Certification
  • Experience in conventional and mechanized mining
  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment

 

Physical Demands

  • Frequently exposed to underground conditions including humidity, reduced lighting, noise, dirt, uneven terrain
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and navigate uneven terrain in an underground environment
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, ad access confirmed or elevated spaces as required
  • Frequent bending/twisting during the inspecting equipment
  • Able to complete both fine and gross motor tasks with both hands
  • Maintain a seated position at a computer desk for varying times throughout the shift
