The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Mine Trainer at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Underground Mine Trainer is responsible for ensuring all mining personnel, whether newcomers or seasoned veterans, are primed to excel in their roles. By providing continuous ‘in field’ training and support to all mine site employees and focusing on the correct operation or equipment and execution of tasks, UG Trainers empower every worker to operate efficiently and productively, without compromising on safety or equipment integrity, ensuring everyone returns home safely after each shift.
This role is responsible for imparting hard skills and intangibles, ensuring each employee is as ‘mine-ready’ as possible, ensuring workers are confident, efficient, and, above all, safe.

Onboarding & Introduction to the Barminco Way: Serve as the initial point of contact for new hires, offering a warm welcome and thorough induction. Ensure that every individual, whether new to the industry or an experienced hand, is instilled with the Barminco ethos, principles, and standards from the outset.
In-Field Training:
- Provide continuous 'in field' training and support to all mine site employees, focusing on the correct operation of equipment and the execution of tasks.
- Demonstrate competence in the principles and application of competency-based learning; coaching colleagues on mining methods, UG equipment, skills and operations.
Performance & Productivity Focus: Maximize efficiency by ensuring every worker understands their role, the equipment they use, and the part they play in our overall success.
Continuous Improvement: Regularly monitor and assess employees' job performance identifying opportunity for improvement in our people, equipment and systems, to enhance operational efficiency and safety performance.
Training Development & Delivery: Create and implement training modules, emphasizing both safety protocols and role-specific operational procedures.
Personalized Sessions: Recognize individual learning needs and deliver bespoke training sessions to bridge knowledge or skill gaps.
Collaboration: Work closely with department leads to understand specific training needs, ensuring all personnel are aligned with our performance and safety goals.
Training Records & Reporting: Recording all training appropriately and accurately, providing regular reports on training activities and employees' performance.
Monitoring & Feedback: Track training outcomes, gather feedback, and adjust training methodologies as necessary to achieve desired results.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- 4-6 years’ relevant experience in an underground hard rock mine with heavy mobile equipment. (Drills, Scoop, Charge Machines, etc.)
- Train-the-Trainer certification; preferred.
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience required
- Thorough knowledge and application of relevant Mining Legislation, Acts, Regs and Standards that need to be referenced within the training program and the client’s safety systems.
- Experience in establishing and delivering training programs and assessment in a mining environment.
- Effective and respectful communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization, both verbal and written
- Able to effectively prioritize workload/activities with strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused.
- Computer skills; Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel and specialized site-specific databases.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism, leadership, and self-motivation.
- Maintain and demonstrate high level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to observe, analyze, resolve problems and make decisions in a logical and effective manner
- Ability to be organized while simultaneously managing multiple job assignments

Work Conditions
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk. Occasionally required to climb, reach, push/pull, floor-to-waist lifting, waist-to-eye lifting, bilateral and unilateral carrying objects, working with arms overhead and stooping, kneeling, repetitive squat, stair and ladder climbing, repetitive trunk rotation and work in awkward positions.
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required.
- Extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in underground conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
