The Opportunity:  Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has new exciting opportunities for Nozzleman/Shotcreters at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia.  Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.

Reporting to the Shotcrete Supervisor, the Nozzleman/Shotcreter is responsible for batching and applying the shotcrete to the required ground support profile as provided on the Ground Support Instruction. The incumbent is expected to adhere to and maintain all company standards and perform duties to the highest levels of safe operation.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
  • Ensure all areas to receive shotcrete are clean, sound, and free of loose material, and that anchors, reinforcement, and ground wires are properly placed and spaced
  • Good understanding of how a shotcrete pump works, various shotcrete mix designs and their impact on the pump. Maclean, and/or, Normet shotcrete machine experience would be a large advantage.
  • Set elevations, grades and thicknesses for the shotcrete placement
  • For wet process: controlling the air that increases or decreases the velocity to ensure proper placement, including proper encasement/build up of shotcrete surface support.
  • Know and perform the proper methods of material preparation and mixing to consistently mix and maintain the required mixture proportions and ratios
  • Hydro scale heading prior to application of shotcrete to remove dust and loose an ensure proper shotcrete adherence.
  • Operate equipment such as transmixer and shotcrete sprayer, ensuring hose and pump are cleaned properly, maintained and inspected
  • Responsible for proper storage, care, and accessibility of the materials, admix, chemicals etc.
  • Immediately report problems/failures that may impact the team, or the company, to your Shift Supervisor
  • Some infrastructure work as required; pouring concrete pads for substations or pump station, assist with construction and spraying bulk head walls or vent walls.
  • Document reports detailing work performed, log batches, areas sprayed and QA/QC performed (core panels sprayed, cube samples taken, slump measurements…etc)
  • Practice good general housekeeping, clean and maintain equipment to a high standard.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience an asset
  • Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
  • Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Preferred; 2-5 years of underground experience; at least 1-2 years directly in shotcrete application.
  • Have experience in use of mechanized shotcrete machines: Maclean, Normet or Putzmeister
  • Have experience in Batch plant operation or batching
  • Operate mobile mixers
  • Perform physical labour for the set-up and tear-down of shotcrete equipment in accordance with client and company standards
  • Perform other related work as assigned for underground development mining
  • Read ground support instructions, comply with QA/QC requirements, shoot test panels as required
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
  • Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow

 

Work Conditions

  • Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation 
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
  • Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
