The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has new exciting opportunities for Batch Plant Operators at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor or designate, the Batch Plant Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating, maintaining and recording of the concrete mixer/batch plant to ensure consistent and quality concrete. The incumbent is expected to adhere to and maintain all company standards and perform duties to the highest levels of safe operation.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
- Using a computerized ready-mix concrete batching system (Command Alkon) to load transmixers
- Manage controls to heat, cool, weigh and mix aggregate, cement and water to produce consistent and quality concrete according to project specifications
- Operate batch plant, ensuring equipment, mixer, bullet, hoses and pumps are thoroughly cleaned properly, maintained and inspected at the beginning and end of each shift and during the shift as required
- Work with Maintenance Department on all preventative maintenance of the mixer/batch plant; perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
- Know and perform the proper methods of material preparation and mixing to consistently mix and maintain the required mixture proportions and ratios
- Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure concrete mixes meet 100% total quality requirements (QA/QC)
- Responsible for proper storage, care, and accessibility of the materials, admix, chemicals etc.
- Immediately report problems/failures/quality control issues that may impact the team, or the company
- Some infrastructure work as required; pouring concrete pads for substations or pump station
- Document reports detailing work performed, for example: log batches, production volumes, materials used, batch adjustments and QA/QC performed (core panels sprayed, cube samples taken, slump measurements…etc)
- Willingness to learn how a shotcrete pump works, various shotcrete mix designs and their impact on the pump
- May be required to operate heavy equipment
- Maclean, and/or, Normet shotcrete machine experience would be a large advantage.
- Practice good general housekeeping, clean and maintain equipment/machinery to a high standard.
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience required
- Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
- Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency
- Preferred; 2-3 years of concrete batching experience
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of concrete batching technology, mix designs, equipment, material properties, and safety protocols is required
- Perform physical labour for the set-up, tear-down and winterizing of batch plant in accordance with client and company standards
- Safe operation mobile transmixers; an asset
- The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
- Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
- Able to effectively prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met
- Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
- Extreme weather conditions
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
